HOUSE of Look UP
BACKSTORY
「見上げる家」は、楽しい家をつくるというシンプルな問いから始まった住宅計画である。
敷地条件によって水平への拡張が制限されるなかで、空間の広がりを面積ではなく体験によって生み出すことが求められた。設計では住宅を固定された建築物としてではなく、日常の感覚を切り替える乗り物として捉え直している。
建物の入口は地盤面ではなく、一階とも二階とも言えない中間高さに配置された。外部階段は本体から切り離されたタラップのような構成とし、住まいへ入る行為を搭乗体験へと転換している。
内部空間では三層を貫く吹抜けと高をを強調した本棚を中心に構成し、身体が自然と上方へ視線を向ける環境をつくった。空間全体は絵画におけるフォーカルポイントとリーディングラインの考え方を応用し、一階中央の机へ視線が集まるよう計画されている。
この机は、無数の本に囲まれながら創作を行う絵本作家のための場として設定された。人物が不在であっても、制作の気配が立ち上がる中心として機能する。
本棚、床の円、吹抜け手すり、螺旋階段といった要素は弧を描きながら視線を循環させ、上部へ導かれた視線はトップライトの光によって再び中心へ戻される。視線の往復運動によって、空間は静的な構成から連続的な体験へと変換される。
住宅でありながら、移動と発見を伴う空間体験を生み出すことを目的とした計画である。

House of LOOK UP began with a simple brief: to create a house that feels enjoyable to inhabit.
Working within a constrained site, the project shifts the idea of spatial richness away from floor area towards experience. Rather than treating the house as a static object, it was conceived as something closer to a vehicle — a device that alters one’s perception upon entry.
The entrance is positioned between conventional floor levels, neither fully ground nor upper floor. An external stair, detached from the main volume, functions like a boarding ramp, transforming arrival into an act of embarkation.
Inside, a triple-height void and dense vertical bookshelves subtly guide the body to look upward. The spatial composition applies principles similar to focal points and leading lines in painting, directing attention toward a central desk located on the ground level.
The desk represents the act of creation itself — a place imagined for a fantasy writer working among countless books. Even in absence, the space retains the presence of making.
Curved elements including shelving, balustrades and a spiral stair generate a continuous visual movement. The gaze rises through the void before being drawn back down by natural light, establishing a cyclical spatial experience rather than a fixed viewpoint.
The result is a house conceived not only as a dwelling, but as an environment that encourages movement, discovery and sustained engagement with space.
